1. Our services
We provide:
- Manuscript editing: language, clarity, structure, formatting and proofreading of documents you have written.
- Figures and publication support: graphical abstracts, figure formatting, pre-submission checks, journal selection reports and preparation of submission files.
- Website and app development: design, development, testing and handover of websites, web applications (including custom software-as-a-service platforms) and mobile apps.
The exact scope of each order is set out in the written quote or order confirmation we send you. If anything in a quote differs from these Terms, the quote applies for that order. Each project is billed once, as a fixed price; we do not currently offer subscription or recurring billing.
2. Who can use the Services
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding contract. If you order on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you are authorized to agree to these Terms for it.
US sanctions. We do not work with clients who reside in, are located in, or are organized under the laws of a country or region subject to comprehensive United States sanctions, or who are named on a US government restricted-party list, such as the Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list maintained by the US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). By requesting a quote or placing an order, you confirm that none of these applies to you or to anyone you are ordering for. If we learn that an order breaches US sanctions, we will cancel it and handle any payment as the law requires.
3. Quotes and orders
- Prices on our website are starting prices. Before any work begins, we send you a written quote stating the scope, the deliverables, the turnaround and a fixed price.
- An order is confirmed when you accept the quote and we receive full payment of the price stated in it. We will then confirm the order and the expected delivery date by email.
- A quote is valid for 30 days unless it says otherwise.
- We may decline any order, including work that conflicts with our Publication Ethics Policy. If we decline an order after you have paid, we refund you in full.
4. Prices and payment
- All prices are in US dollars (USD). Any taxes that apply are shown on your quote or invoice.
- All Services are paid in full, in advance, when you accept the quote. This applies to editing, publication support, and website and app development alike. We do not take deposits or split payments into instalments.
- Payments are processed securely by third-party payment providers (for example, card processors or PayPal). We do not see or store your full card details.
- If you ask for work outside the agreed scope, we will send a separate quote. We will not charge for additional work you have not approved in writing.
5. Delivery and turnaround
- All Services are delivered digitally, by email or through a secure file link. Nothing is shipped.
- Turnaround times are counted in business days (Monday to Friday, excluding US federal holidays) from the time we have confirmed your order and received everything we need from you.
- We aim to meet every agreed deadline. If we expect a delay, we will tell you as soon as we know. If we miss an agreed delivery date, you may cancel the undelivered work for a refund under our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
- Development timelines depend on you providing content, feedback and approvals on time. Delays on your side extend the timeline accordingly.
- Typical turnaround for each service, and how delivery works, is set out in our Service Delivery Policy.
6. Revisions and acceptance
- Each Service includes the revisions stated on our pricing page or in your quote.
- Reporting a problem (14 days): if a delivery does not match what was agreed, tell us within 14 days of delivery and we will correct it at no cost.
- Re-editing (90 days): separately, editing services that include re-editing of a revised manuscript let you send the revised version within 90 days of delivery, on the terms shown on our pricing page. This is a service included in your order, not an extension of the 14-day window for reporting problems.
- For website and app projects, you will be asked to review and approve the work before launch or handover. Approval, or using the work in production, counts as acceptance. Bugs reported during the included support period are fixed at no cost.
7. Your responsibilities
You agree that:
- the information and files you give us are accurate and you have the right to share them with us;
- content you send us (text, data, images, logos and so on) does not infringe anyone else's rights and is not unlawful;
- you are responsible for checking and approving our work before you use or submit it; and
- you will not use the Services for anything unlawful, deceptive or contrary to the rules of your institution, publisher or employer.
8. Publication ethics
Our editing and publication support improves documents that you have written. You remain the sole author of your work and are responsible for its content, data and conclusions. We do not write content for you, take part in authorship, complete coursework or assessments, or submit work to journals on your behalf. Full details are in our Publication Ethics Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
9. Ownership and intellectual property
- Your content stays yours. You keep all rights in the manuscripts, data, figures and other material you send us. We use it only to deliver your order.
- Editing and publication support: once delivered, the edited documents, figures and reports are yours to use.
- Websites and apps: ownership of the custom work we create for you transfers to you when the project is paid in full. Open-source components, third-party libraries, fonts and plugins remain subject to their own licenses, and we will list any that need a paid license before you buy it.
- We will not show your work in our portfolio without your written permission.
10. Confidentiality
We treat your files and project information as confidential. They are only shared with the editors, illustrators or developers working on your order, all of whom are bound by confidentiality obligations. We do not upload your manuscript to public AI tools that use submitted content for training. We may disclose information only if the law requires it. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle personal information.
11. Third-party services and costs
Some projects rely on services from other companies, such as domain registrars, hosting providers, app stores, payment providers and software licenses. These are governed by those companies' own terms. Unless your quote says otherwise, their fees are either paid by you directly to that company, or bought by us in our own name and recharged to you at cost as a line on your quote. We always contract with you as principal: we do not collect payments on behalf of anyone else. Third-party fees are not refundable by us.
12. Cancellations and refunds
You can cancel an order and receive a refund as described in our Refund & Cancellation Policy. In summary: a full refund before work starts, a partial refund for work not yet completed, and a free correction if a delivery does not match what was agreed. Please contact us before opening a dispute with your bank or payment provider. We will try to resolve any issue quickly.
13. What we do not promise
- We do not guarantee that a manuscript will be accepted by any journal or publisher. Editorial and peer-review decisions are made only by the journal.
- Journal recommendations and pre-submission checks are professional advice based on publicly available information at the time. Journal requirements can change, and you should check them before submitting.
- We do not guarantee particular search-engine rankings, traffic, sales or business results from a website or app.
- We do not guarantee that an app will be approved by the Apple App Store, Google Play or any other store. Store review decisions are made only by the store, and we will help you address any feedback it gives.
- Apart from the commitments in these Terms and your quote, the Services are provided "as is", to the extent the law allows. See also our Disclaimer.
14. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to an order is limited to the amount you paid for that order. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses such as loss of profit, data, opportunity or reputation. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
15. Ending an engagement
Either of us may end an engagement in writing if the other materially breaches these Terms and does not fix the problem within 10 days of being told. If an engagement ends early, you pay for work completed to that point and we refund any amount paid for work not done, as set out in the Refund & Cancellation Policy.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA. If a disagreement arises, please contact us first. We will work in good faith to resolve it within 30 days. If it cannot be resolved, the courts located in Richmond, Virginia have jurisdiction, unless the law of your country gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when they last changed. The version in force when you confirmed your order applies to that order.
